Linn-Mar swimmers claim Muskie title

MUSCATINE - The Linn-Mar girls swimming team captured seven events and took top honors at the Muscatine Kickoff meet Saturday.

Jenn Jenks, Kelly Wingerson, Lizzie Adams and Kelsey Drake set a pool and school record in the 400 freestyle relay in 3 minutes, 38.08 seconds. Jenks broke her own school mark in the 500 freestyle in 5:12.64.

Jenks won the 200 IM (2:15.25), Emma Behrens captured the 100 fly (1:06.43), Wingerson took the 200 free (2:05.81) and Drake notched the 100 breaststroke (1:07.77). The Lions also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.77 with Jenks, Adams, Wingerson and Drake.

Jenn Jenks, Drake shine for Lions

CEDAR FALLS - Jenn Jenks and Kelsey Drake were quadrupled winners for the Linn-Mar Lions in a Mississippi Valley Conference swimming meet at Cedar Falls Tuesday night.

Cedar Falls won the meet, 109-77.

Jenks claimed the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Drake captured the 200 IM and 100 fly. They both swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Lizzie Adams swam on both winning relays for Linn-Mar. Kelly Wingerson swam on the 200 free relay and Mikaela Lengwin won the diving for the Lions.

Linn-Mar won seven of 12 events, but Cedar Falls prevailed on depth to win meet.

Drake makes big splash for Lions

Kelsey Drake won two events and helped win two more Tuesday in her first meet for the Linn-Mar girls swimming team.

Drake, a transfer from Jefferson, captured the 200 IM and 100 fly as the Lions trimmed Newton, 99-87, in the season opener at the Linn-Mar Aquatics Center.

Drake also swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Kelly Wingerson won the 200 free and 500 free for Linn-Mar.

Drake now swimming for Linn-Mar

Kelsey Drake, a two-time silver medalist at the 2013 girls state swimming meet, has transferred from Cedar Rapids Jefferson to Linn-Mar and is now competing for the Lions, according to an article in Tuesday's Gazette. Drake placed second in the 200 IM and second in the 100 butterly as a freshman at state last year.

Drake has moved into the Linn-Mar district and is eligible immediately.

She told The Gazette that she changed schools because her club team coach, Brian Ruffles, now works at the new Linn-Mar Aquatic Center. She said she also was attracted to Linn-Mar by its new facility.
