Linn-Mar trio qualifies for state diving

CLINTON - Three Linn-Mar divers were among the 30 tentative qualifiers for next week's state meet during Thursday's regional meets.

Alyssa Deuso, Bailee Seger and Mikaela Lengwin finished 5-6-7 in the Iowa City Regional meet, which was held at Clinton.

Jefferson's Katelyn Canby also qualified in eighth place.

Iowa City West claimed the top three spots in the regional.

Three divers, including Kennedy's Victoria Spalding, qualified from the Clinton regional. Spalding finished third.

The regional swimming meets are Saturday at 12 p.m. The Iowa City regional will be held at the Mercer Aquatic Center. The Clinton regional will be held at Clinton High School.

The state diving meet is next Friday night at the Marshalltown YMCA. The state swimming meet is the next day at the same site.

Regional champions plus next 24 top scores qualify for state diving meet

Dalecky and Lions dunk Warriors

Lauren Dalecky won four events to lead Linn-Mar past Washington, 106-80, Tuesday night in a girls swimming meet at Coe.

Samantha Fitzgerald won three events for the Lions, and Lizzie Adams and Alexa Klimes won two apiece.

Dalecky and Fitzgerald swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Dalecky also won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Fitzgerald won the 100 butterfly.

Adams and Klimes also swam on the winning medley relay. Adams won the 100 backstroke, Klimes the 100 freestyle.

Linn-Mar's Alyssa Deuso won diving. Freshmen Stephanie Jenks and Paige Broghammer swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Jackie Hughes was a triple winner for Washington. She won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay. The Warriors' McKenzie Asplund won the 200 freestyle and swam on the 400 free relay.

The meet was a tuneup for the Mississippi Valley Conference meet later this week at Washington. Diving competition is Thursday evening. Swimming is Saturday at noon.

Fitzgerald paces Linn-Mar swimmers

IOWA CITY - Samantha Fitzgerald won four events Tuesday as Linn-Mar defeated Iowa City High and Vinton-Shellsburg/Union in a double-dual swimming meet at the Mercer Park pool.

Fitzgerald captured the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle races. She also swam on the triumphant medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Lizzie Adams, Paige Broghammer and Stephanie Jenks were triple winners for the Lions.

Adams won the 100 backstroke and swam on the medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Broghmammer took the 100 butterfly and swam on the medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Jenks won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and swam on the 400 freestyle relay.

Lions sunk by No. 3 Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The 10th-ranked Linn-Mar High School swimming team got thoroughly drenched by No. 3 Cedar Falls Tuesday night, 128-58, in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet.

The Tigers won all 12 events.

Linn-Mar finished second in the medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. The Lions also got runnerup showings from Lauren Reynolds (200 IM), Lizzie Adams (50 free), Mikaela Lengwin (diving) and Lauren Dalecky (100 breaststroke).
