Linn-Mar girls drop 2 MVC meets

Nicole Glanz of Linn-Mar trimmed Madison McCann of Cedar Falls, 10-7, at No. 1 singles in their Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Linn-Mar Saturday.

Linn-Mar dropped both of its meets, falling to Cedar Falls 7-2 and losing to Waterloo West 5-4.

Jessica Carpenter won both of her matches at No. 4 singles for the Lions.

Linn-Mar - Girls Tennis

Warriors lead all-Metro girls tennis

Seven members of the Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis team have been named to the 2014 all-Metro squad after winning the Class 2A state title.

Lilly Hartman and Hannah Sherman were named to the first team. Rina Moore, Jennifer Greif and Kelly King were named to the second team. Callie Cook and Caroline Rossberger received honorable mention for the Warriors.

Ellie Anderson of Linn-Mar, Jessica Pedersen of Kennedy, Vale Caro of Prairie and Magui Caro of Prairie joined Hartman and Sherman on the all-Metro first team. All six players were unanimous selections.

Scott Leggat of Prairie was named the Coach of the Year.

FIRST TEAM

Ellie Anderson (Linn-Mar), Jessica Pedersen (Kennedy), Lilly Hartman (Washington), Hannah Sherman (Washington), Vale Caro (Prairie), Magui Caro (Prairie).

SECOND TEAM

Kylie Jonas (Jefferson), Rina Moore (Washington), Jennifer Greif (Washington), Kelly King (Washington), Evann Martin (Kennedy), Jessica Carpenter (Linn-Mar), Allison Jasper (Xavier).

Andersons take 3rd at coed tennis

ANKENY - Brady Anderson and his sister Ellie placed third at the Class 2A state coed tennis tournament in Ankeny Tuesday.

The Andersons defeated Griffin Rasche and Evan Hood of Clinton, 6-3, 6-3, in the consolation finals for third place.

Chloe Jefferies and Anders Jensen of West Des Moines Valley defeated Abby Jans and Trent Schneider of Iowa City West, 6-4, 6-2, for the title.

The Andersons won four straight matches before losing to West Des Moines Valley in the semifinals, 6-0, 7-5. They ended up playing six matches in one day.

Linn-Mar girls fall in tennis regional

The Linn-Mar Lions were defeated by Iowa City High, 5-1, in the Class 2A regional tennis tournament Saturday.

Megan Burr collected the only point for Linn-Mar with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.

Linn-Mar - Girls Tennis

Ellie Anderson wins twice at regional

Ellie Anderson of Linn-Mar won two matches at a Class 2A regional tennis tournament Thursday before being ousted.

The regional was scheduled for Ottumwa, but was moved to the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids due to rain.

Anderson clipped Amelia Prybil of Iowa City High, 6-1, 6-0, and defeated Maria Burtch of Iowa City West, 6-3, 6-1, in her first two matches. She lost to Eve Small of Iowa City High, 6-1, 6-1, in he next contest.

Raquel Kragel of Linn-Mar defeated Kylie Jonas of Jefferson, 6-2, 6-1, but lost in her next match. Jamie Wantock and Ashley Resewehr of Linn-Mar won their first doubles match before falling.
