Jenks takes 2nd at Virginia triathlon

RICHMOND, Va. - Linn-Mar High School freshman Stephanie Jenks placed second in the Junior Elite Female division Sunday morning at a major triathlon in Richmond, Va.

Jenks completed the 750 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike race and five kilometer run in 1 hour, 1 minute and 13 seconds.

The Junior Elite division is for athletes whose birthdays put them in the 16 to 19 age group. Jenks is listed as a 16-year-old.

Jenks claims 3000 at 104th Drake Relays

DES MOINES - Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks chatted amiably with some of her friends after topping them in the 3000 meter run Thursday at the 104th Annual Drake Relays, casually holding her championship banner after running the third-fastest time in meet history.

She didn't act like her performance was anything special, but it was.

Jenks captured the 3000 in 9 minutes, 46.02 seconds with a strong kick on the final lap to win her personal battle with Pleasant Valley freshman McKenzie Yanek by more than four seconds.

Jenks wins twice in Clinton

CLINTON - Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks won the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run at the River Queen Invitational in Clinton Tuesday.

Jenks and teammate Amber Decker finished a tight first and second in the 800 and rank second and third in the state in that event. Jenks also ranks first in the state in the 3000 and second in the state in the 1500.

Iowa City High won the team championship with 157 points. Linn-Mar placed second in the 10-team field with 128 markers.

Linn-Mar girls take Mount Vernon Relays

MOUNT VERNON - Amber Decker captured the 800 meter run Saturday to help the Linn-Mar Lions win the Mount Vernon Relays.

Decker circled the track in 2:20.19 for her victory.

Linn-Mar also won the distance medley and sprint medley.

Jenks, J-Hawks double up at Dickinson Relays

CEDAR FALLS - Stephanie Jenks ran 15 laps around the UNI-Dome track Monday at the A.D. Dickinson Relays, took one deep breath and then waited for the rest of the girls in the 3000 meter run to cross the finish line so she could shake their hands.

The Linn-Mar freshman had to wait a while to greet them all.

Jenks won the 3000 in 10:16.27 in a breeze. She clocked a 9:49.24 at the same distance last week at a major meet in Ames when she faced serious competition from Anna Holidman of Waverly-Shell Rock, but there wasn't much of a challenge Monday.
