Kelly fires 37 for Marion golfers

VAN HORNE - Ian Kelley shot a 37 for Marion High School Monday as the Indians lost a Wamac Conference golf meet to Benton Community, 156-166, at Tara Hills.

T.J. Comisky took medalist honors for Benton with a 36.

MARION (166): Ian Kelly 37, Jeremy Schnieders 42, Sam Gray 43, Daly Quinn 44.

BENTON: T.J. Comisky 36, Hunter Livermore 39, Jacob Germann 39, Brennan Pace 42.

Wagner 9th in district golf

WILLIAMSBURG -- Marion's Mitch Wagner shot rounds of 41-41 for an 82 Friday and finished in ninth place at the boys Class 3A district golf meet at Stone Creek.

The top four golfers advance to the state meet.

Wagner was the only Marion golfer to qualify for the district meet.

Wagner fires 76 at 3A sectional golf

SOLON - Marion High School senior Mitch Wagner shot a 4-over-par 76 at the Class 3A sectional meet at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course Thursday and tied for fourth in the individual standings.

Wagner qualified for the 3A district meet that will be held at Stone Creek Golf Course in Williamsburg on Friday, May 18. The top four individuals (plus ties) advanced to the district meet.

Ty Thede of Maquoketa took medalist honors with a 1-under-par 71.

Marion finished sixth in the team standings with a four-man total of 328. Ian Kelly shot a 9-over 81 for the Indians.

Maquoketa won the team championship. Anamosa and DeWitt Central tied for second, but Anamosa won the tiebreaker and will join Maquoketa at the district meet.

Marion boys 7th in tight Wamac Super Meet

SOLON -- Mitch Wagner's 79 led Marion to a seventh-place finish Monday in the Wamac Super Meet boys golf tournament at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course.

Marion finished just seven shots behind tournament champion Williamsburg. Kenneth Wade shot an 80, Jeremy Schnieders 81 and Tyler Ohl 83 for the Indians.

Williamsburg's Drew Slings was medalist. He and Western Dubuque's Logan Bahl tied at even-par 72, but Slings won the medalist title in a playoff.

Williamsburg edged Waterloo Columbus and Anamosa by a stroke. Columbus was awarded second based on the score of its No. 5 golfer. Anamosa and DeWitt Central were three shots back.

Marion is back at Saddleback Ridge on Thursday for the Class 3A district tournament.

Wagner fires 78 for Marion golfers

MONTICELLO - Mitch Wagner shot a 6-over-par 78 Wednesday to help the Marion Indians place fourth at the Monticello Invitational at the Monticello Golf Club.

Wagner finished fifth in the individual results. North Cedar won the team title.
