Marion boys 3rd at DeWitt Invitational golf

DE WITT -- Mitch Wagner and Dylan Kelly each shot 81 to lead Marion to a third-place finish Tuesday at the DeWitt Saber Invitational boys golf tournament held at Springbrook Country Club.

Host DeWitt Central won the seven-team meet with a 314. Anamosa was second at 326 and Marion third at 336.

DeWitt Central's Dylan Petersen was medalist with a one-over par 71.

Marion golfers win Viking Invitational

EDGEWOOD - Kenneth Wade fired a 3-over-par 73 Saturday to help the Marion Indians win the Viking Invitational at Lone Pine Golf Course.

Wade tied Tim Norton of Monticello for the best round of the day, but Norton won medalist honors in a playoff.

Mitch Wagner shot an 80, Jeremy Schnieders 81 and Tyler Ohl 86 to give Marion a four-man score of 320 for the championship. Monticello placed second in the nine-team field at 325.

Marion boys take 2nd at Clear Creek Amana meet

AMANA - Mitch Wagner shot a 7-over-par 43 Thursday to help the Marion Indians finish second in a Wamac Conference quadrangular golf meet at the Amana Colonies Golf Course.

Waterloo Columbus took team honors with a 163. Jack Conway of Columbus was the medalist with a 3-over 39.

Kelly's 38 sends Marion golfers past Benton

Ian Kelly shot a 38 for medalist honors to lead Marion past Benton Community, 165-172, Monday in a boys golf meet at Gardner Golf Course.

Kenneth Wade shot a 41, and Mitch Wagner and Tyler Ohl shot 43 for Marion.

Schnieders' comes up short in qualifying bid

WILLIAMSBURG -- Marion's Matt Schnieders failed in his bid to make the Class 3A boys state golf tournament Friday, shooting a 12-over par 83 in the district meet at Stone Creek Golf Course.

Schnieders had three bogeys and three double bogeys to go along with his only birdie on a tough front nine. He had four bogeys on the back.

Schnieders was Marion's only golfer to qualify for districts out of sectionals.

Joseph Harris and Alex Thode both shot 71s for low scores and led Washington, Iowa, to the team title with a 305. Williamsburg was second at 307.Fairfield was third at 322, but also qualified for the state tournament.

Mitch Tucker of Oskaloosa and Brad Klosterboer of Williamsburg both shot 73 to also advance in medal play.

The Class 3A state tournament is May 27-28 at Ames.
