Schnieders earns medalist honors at sectional meet

SOLON --Marion's Matt Schnieders shot a 2-under par 70 to earn medalist honors Thursday at the Class 3A sectional boys golf meet at Saddleback Ridge.

Schnieders qualifies for the district meet on May 20 at Williamsburg.

Williamsburg won the sectional title with a 298 that was 13 strokes better than runner-up Solon. Maquoketa was third. All three teams advance to the district meet.

Marion was ffith.

Williamsburg had three players qualify for medalist play -- Austin Hilligas, Brad Klosterboer and Drew Slings.

Marion's Keel is Wamac medalist

WATERLOO - Marion High School junior Brandon Keel fired a 4-over-par 76 Monday to claim medalist honors at the Wamac Conference meet at Gates Park.

Keel beat Mitch Maiers of Waterloo Columbus by one shot to become the first Marion golfer to win medalist honors at the Wamac meet since the league expanded.

Matt Schnieders of Marion shot a 6-over-par 78 to help the Indians take third place in the 15-team field.

Waterloo Columbus won the meet with a score of 317. Solon was second at 332, followed by Marion at 335.

Matt Schnieders takes title at Monticello

MONTICELLO - Matt Schnieders of Marion High School fired a 5-over-par 77 Wednesday to take top individual honors at the Panther Invitational at the Monticello Golf Course.

Tyler Ohl shot an 83 for the Indians, Brandon Keel had an 88 and Jeremy Schnieders shot 91.

Indians struggle to 6th at DeWitt tourney

DEWITT -- Marion had two players shoot less than 90 and struggled home in sixth palce Tuesday at the DeWitt Saber Invitational at the par-70 Springbrook Country Club.

Brandon Keel's 85 lead the Indians.

Maquoketa won the team title with a 331 that was 10 strokes better than Dyersville Beckman. The Blazers had the top two individuals. Heinrik Markland shot a 76 and Chance Maiers an 80.

Marion boys 5th at Wamac West meet

VAN HORNE -- Matt Schnieders fired a 4-over-par 40 Monday to help Marion finish fifth at the Wamac Conference West Division golf meet at Tara Hills.

Brandon Keel shot a 42 for the Indians, Tyler Ohl 44 and Jeremy Schnieders 48.

Adam Squires shot an even-par 36 to help Waterloo Columbus win the title. Mitch Maiers of Columbus shot a 37.
