Schneiders 4th at Maquoketa Invitational

MAQUOKETA -- Marion's Matt Schneiders shot a 79 that tied for fourth in the medalist race, but Maquoketa ran away with team honors Wednesday at the Maquoketa Invitational boys golf tournament.

Maquoketa won by 26 strokes over second-place DeWitt Central. Marion was fifth, 46 strokes behind the winners.

DeWitt Central's Dylan Petersen was medalist with a 2-over par 72 at the Maquoketa Country Club.

Marion boys golfers trimmed by Williamsburg

Brandon Keel fired a 2-over-par 38 for Marion Monday in a 159-166 loss to Williamsburg in a Wamac Conference meet at the Gardner golf course.

Matt Schnieders shot a 39 for the Indians.

Corbin Blythe took medalist honors for Williamsburg with a 1-over-par 37.

Marion boys golf wins by criteria

Marion's Matt Schnieders shot a 38 to lead all golfers, but it took Jeremy Schnieders' 49 for the Indians to score a victory Thursday over DeWitt Central at Gardner golf course.

Team scores are determined by the top four individual scores. But Marion and DeWitt were tied, 173-173, through four players. State rules call for the fifth player to be used as criteria to break the tie. Jeremy Schnieders shot a 49. DeWitt's Mitch Scott shot a 50.

Brandon Keel shot a 40 for Marion.

CENTER POINT -- Matt Schnieders shot a 39 that led Marion to a 13-stroke win over Center Point-Urbana Monday in a Wamac Conference boys golf meet.

Marion improved to 5-1.
