Saints escape City High in girls tennis

IOWA CITY -- Xavier won two doubles matches to escape Iowa City High, 5-4, Tuesday in girls tennis.

The meet was deadlocked, 3-3, after singles. Iowa City High's No. 1 doubles team won, but the Saints won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to win the meet.

Claie Bouchard and Devin Hayes won singles and doubles matches for Xavier.

Linn-Mar girls netters whip Xavier

Katie Rakers beat Laura Birky 10-5 at No. 1 singles and propelled Linn-Mar past Xavier, 7-2, Thursday in girls tennis at Linn-Mar.

Rakers also teamed up with Jenna Myers to beat Birky and Allison Jasper at No. 1 doubles, 10-5.

Xavier girls sweep Dubuque teams

DUBUQUE - The Xavier High School girls tennis team had a profitable trip to Dubuque Saturday for a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference meets.

The Saints topped Dubuque Wahlert, 6-3, in the morning and handled Dubuque Senior, 8-1, in the afternoon.

Laura Birky, Meggie Gates and Devin Hayes won both of their singles matches for Xavier.

Kennedy girls rally to beat Xavier netters

Kennedy won all three doubles matches and came from behind to beat Xavier, 5-4, Tuesday in girls tennis at Xavier.

Kennedy's Melanie Abzug and Rachel Gilman beat Jean Bouchard and Devin Hayes in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to win the meet.

Xavier won four of six singles matches to take a 4-2 lead. The Saints' Laura Birky beat Sarah Lasecki, 11-9, at No. 1 singles. Lasecki and Lindsay Minder came back to beat Birky and Allison Jasper, 10-8, at No. 1 doubles.
