Timauntay Jones has the Drake Relays on his mind.

He goes to sleep and thinks about Drake. He's sitting in class at Jefferson High School and thinks about Drake. He tries to do his homework and, well, you get the idea.

He thinks about Drake.

"It's on my mind all the time," Jones said Monday afternoon before practice at Kingston Stadium. "I mean, I can be sitting in class and paying attention and I start thinking about it."

Chris Deam named Jefferson activities director

Osceola Clarke High School Principal Kim Antisdel tried to give Chris Deam a night off last month, but she failed.

"We had a contest here a couple of weeks ago and I told him, 'You know, you have a lot of late nights, I'll take the contest on Saturday,'" Antisdel said Monday. "And I'll be darned if I was sitting in here and he shows up and I said, 'What are you doing here?'

"He is so very, very attentive to his job and to the kids and is a strong supporter of our activities, whether it's music or arts or sports or whatever it is. Chris is always here in the building."

Deam, 36, was announced Monday as the new Activities Director and Associate Principal at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, succeeding Scott Kibby.

Edwards finds a home at Jefferson

For the past three years, Jason Edwards said he has felt like a man without a home.

Edwards is a counselor at Jefferson and during the fall he has been an assistant football coach for the J-Hawks. But during the winter he has been an assistant girls basketball coach at Washington.

"I kind of felt like the Washington people hated me in the fall and the Jefferson people hated me in the winter," he said.

He won't have to leave the southwest side campus anymore. Edwards was named the J-Hawks head girls basketball coach Friday. He replaces Larry Niemeyer, who resigned last month after 34 years at the school.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson Principal Chuck McDonnell is an extremely busy man these days.

In addition to running a high school that's going through a major remodeling project, he's also looking for a new athletic director, a new football coach and a new girls basketball coach.

And since Scott Kibby is leaving as Jefferson's athletic director at the end of the school year, he's no longer the point man in hiring new coaches. McDonnell is.

McDonnell said he's excited about the challenge and opportunity of bringing new people into the school. "Super psyched," he told the Metro Sports Report.
