J-Hawks win 2 in Classic

Maddie Hansen had four hits in seven at bats, driving home four runs as Jefferson won a pair of games Saturday in the Jefferson Classic.

The J-Hawks beat Boone, 8-1, in their first game as Hansen had two hits and an RBI, Katelyn Holub was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Alissa Good (6-0) was the winning pitcher.

Jefferson blew past Clinton, 12-0, in its second game, Hansen drove in three runs with her two hits, Liv Erickson had two hits and three RBIs while Tori Brandon had two hits and two RBIs. Alyssa Olson pitched a two-hitter, striking out five.

The J-Hawks are 14-4.

 

J-Hawks split with Golden Eagles

DUBUQUE - Jared Eivins and Lucas Larson combined on a six-hit shutout as the Jefferson J-Hawks trimmed Dubuque Wahlert, 1-0, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Dubuque Friday.

Wahlert won the second game, 6-5.

Eivins pitched the first five innings of the opener and allowed three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Larson tossed the final two frames.

Mannie Olutunde drove in Jefferson's run in the sixth inning.

Spencer VanScoyoc went 3-for-4 with a double and triple and scored two runs for the J-Hawks in the second game. Eivins and Michael Neuberger had two hits.

J-Hawks split 2 games in Classic

Maddie Hansen and Emily Walton belted home runs Friday as the Jefferson J-Hawks rolled by Iowa City Regina, 13-1, in their first game at the Jefferson Classic.

The J-Hawks lost to top-ranked Johnston, 6-5, in their second game.

Walton went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and five RBIs against Regina. Sydney Briney went 3-for-3 and Tori Brandon was 3-for-4. Hansen went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Kennedy Dighton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Katelyn Holub also had two hits.

Hannah Towns hit a three-run double for Jefferson against Johnston. Erin Kuba socked a home run and Avery Guy was 2-for-4.

The split left Jefferson with a 12-4 record.

 

 

 

 

   

No.3 J-Hawks split with Rams

DUBUQUE - Maddie Hansen went 4-for-7 Thursday as No.3 Jefferson split a Mississippi Valley Conference twinbill at Dubuque Senior.

Dubuque Senior won the first game, 2-0. Jefferson captured the nightcap, 4-0.

Hansen went 2-for-3 in the first game and 2-for-4 in the second contest. Erin Kuba was 2-for-4 in the second game for the J-Hawks.

The split left Jefferson at 11-3 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

 

J-Hawks feast on Davenport West

DAVENPORT - Marcus Colbert hit a home run and drove in three runs Wednesday night as the Jefferson J-Hawks dumped Davenport West, 13-3, in a prep baseball game in Davenport.

Mannie Olutunde went 3-for-4 for Jefferson (9-3) and scored three runs. Lucas Larson, Spencer Hunt and Colton Knox had two hits. Knox had two doubles and drove in two runs.

Hunt tossed a complete game for Jefferson. He allowed only one earned run and had six strikeouts.

Drahozal helps Saints sweep J-Hawks

In a doubleheader duel between ace pitchers, Xavier’s tough-as-nails Erin Drahozal came out on top twice Tuesday night on the Saints’ home diamond.

Drahozal picked up a pair of wins while Jefferson’s Alyssa Olson lost her first two of the year as Xavier came from behind to sweep the Class 5A third-ranked and previously unbeaten J-Hawks.

The Saints took the opener, 2-1, with both runs coming in the sixth inning.

And after spotting Jefferson a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, the Class 4A sixth-ranked Saints rallied back to win, 6-5, in eight innings.

Jefferson Coach Brian Erbe calls rise-ball specialist Olson “the best pitcher in the state.”

Larson sparks J-Hawks past PV

Lucas Larson collected two doubles and two RBIs Tuesday as Jefferson topped Pleasant Valley, 5-2, in a prep baseball game at the Jefferson diamond.

Cam Frazier scored two runs for the J-Hawks. Colton Knox and Marcus Colbert split the pitching for Jefferson, with Knox getting the win and Colbert the save.

Jeff gets strong pitching in sweep

Ben Koering and Jared Eivins pitched strong games Monday as the Jefferson J-Hawks swept Iowa City High, 3-1 and 5-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Jefferson.

Koering tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts in the 3-1 victory. He also drove in two runs to help himself with the bat.

Eivins pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts in the 5-1 triumph. Marcus Colbert drove in two runs for the J-Hawks. Spencer Hunt, Lucas Larson and Koering had two hits.

Olson brothers pick UNI, Kirkwood

It's been a good week for the Olson brothers of Cedar Rapids and their college basketball careers.

Taylor Olson has accepted an offer to join the University of Northern Iowa basketball team as an invited walk-on and his younger brother Jacob has accepted an offer to play at Kirkwood.

The Olson brothers starred at Jefferson High School, where they were all-state selections. Taylor Olson played at Kirkwood the past two years and now Jacob Olson will be following in his footsteps.

Both brothers are point guards who can handle the ball and score.

17 Metro boys make all-state soccer

The overall strength of boys soccer in the Metro area was demonstrated by the all-state teams announced Saturday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Seventeen Metro players were honored on the squad, including six players who were named first team all-state.

The first-team selections are Killian Magee of Kennedy, Jacob Bjornsen of Washington, Mike Eken of Washington and Jared Belin of Linn-Mar in Class 3A. Connor Ramlo of Xavier and Enoch Duval of Marion made the top unit in Class 2A.

Andrew Sheeley of Kennedy, Ben Johnson of Linn-Mar, Logan Rinderknecht of Prairie, Alexy Boehm of Linn-Mar, Ian Karr of Jefferson, Jack Ramsey of Linn-Mar, Jesse Vizzini of Prairie and Gunnar Lenzen of Washington were named second team all-state in Class 3A. Stephen Jones of Xavier and Matthew Minks of Marion were named second team all-state in Class 2A.

Nathan Althoff of Kennedy received honorable mention in Class 3A.
