Rice wins Metro Spotlight Award

Chloe Rice of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award this week for high school girls, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Rice, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, is a key member of the Marion basketball team that is ranked No. 7 in Class 4A with an 11-4 record.

Rice, a lanky point guard, is averaging 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 steals for the Indians. She ranks third in the Wamac Conference West Division in scoring, third in steals and fifth in assists.

Conways, Clifton lead Marion grapplers

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Marion Indians finished eighth out of 24 teams at the Blue Valley Northwest wrestling tournament Saturday in Overland Park, Kan.

Colin Conway finished second at 152 pounds to lead the Indians.

Caleb Conway placed third at 145 pounds and Trey Clifton finished third at 138 pounds.

Manhattan (Kan.) won the tournament with 261.5 points. Marion scored 129.5 points.

 

Manderscheid helps Marion nip Williamsburg

Jacob Manderscheid scored 16 points Friday night as the Marion Indians trimmed Williamsburg, 40-37, in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

Noah Walter pitched in 10 points for Marion (6-8).

Allyn Francis scored 17 points for Williamsburg (1-13).

Rice nets 29 for No. 7 Indians

WILLIAMSBURG – Chloe Rice poured in 29 points to lead the seventh-ranked Marion girls basketball team to a 73-35 win over Williamsburg in a Wamac game Friday.

Mia Laube scored 11 points for the Indians (11-4), who led 22-7 after the first quarter and finished with 11 3-point goals.

The Raiders fell to 4-11.

Timmerman rolls 473 series for Marion

Dakota Timmerman rolled a 257 game and a 473 series as the Marion boys bowling team lost to Maquoketa, 3,184 to 2,975, Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Isaac Andersen led Maquoketa with a 505 series.
