Prairie swept by Dubuque Senior

The Cedar Rapids Prairie softball team dropped a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference games to Dubuque Senior Tuesday night at Prairie.

The Rams swept, 10-0 and 9-2.

Dubuque Senior raised its records to 26-4 overall and 16-2 in the MVC. Prairie fell to 5-18 overall and 4-14 in the league.

Puk, Hammer sit as Prairie sweeps Wash

The buzz at Washington High School prior to a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference games against Prairie Monday night was about A.J. Puk and Brennan Hammer, a couple of star players who were not in uniform due to injuries.

Prairie swept the twinbill from the struggling Warriors, 15-5 and 12-0.

Washington star Puk has been sidelined with a broken thumb, but he did manage to go to a showcase event in Minneapolis last week to show the scouts his pitching skills. It was feasible because he's left-handed and the broken thumb is on his right hand.

Prairie Hawks split with Wahlert

DUBUQUE - The Prairie Hawks collected 15 hits and defeated Dubuque Wahlert, 9-2, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader Tuesday in Dubuque.

Wahlert claimed the nightcap, 6-2.

Malia Gudenkauf slugged a home run for Prairie (4-13, 3-9) in the first game and drove in two runs. Amanda Stecklein went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs. Gabi Carter was 3-for-4 with a double and scored two runs. Brittney Lash, Katie Kuch and Natalie Rumer had two hits.

Prairie splits wild twinbill with Wahawks

Waterloo West entered Monday night's Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader against Prairie with zero league victories in its first seven chances.

That drought ended as the Wahawks and Prairie Hawks split a high-scoring twinbill at Prairie.

Waterloo West won the first game, 18-8. Prairie rebounded and captured the nightcap, 9-6.

Aune, Dellamuth help Iowans win medley

JOLIET, Ill. -- Cedar Rapids Prairie seniors Jacob Aune and Austin Dellamuth helped Team Iowa win the 1600 medley at the Senior All-Star Spotlight Meet Saturday at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

The meet featured teams from Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois in competition against each other.

The Iowans won the medley in 3 minutes, 26 seconds. Dellamuth ran his 200 leg in 22.5 seconds and Aune ran the 800 in 1:52, a personal best.

Dellamuth and Aune also helped Iowa place second in the 4x400 relay in 3:19. Both Prairie runners had 49-second splits on their 400 legs.
