Doser resigning as Prairie coach

Steve Doser plans to resign as the girls basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Prairie after this season, The Gazette reported Friday.

Doser, 47, cited family reasons for his resignation.

Doser has compiled a 164-145 record in 14 years at Prairie, with trips to the state tournament in 2001, 2005 and 2006. The Hawks reached the state semifinals in 2005 and 2006.

Prairie has a 6-5 record this season. The Hawks play at Cedar Rapids Washington tonight.

 

Prairie Hawks pin Saints, Wahawks

The Cedar Rapids Prairie wrestling team swept a double-dual against Xavier and Waterloo West Thursday night by a combined score of 125-17.

The Hawks pinned the Saints, 53-12, and flattened the Wahawks, 72-5.

Josh Wenger (138) and Trey Blaha (152) collected two pins for Prairie. Marcus England (106), Dylan Kleinschmidt (113), Sam Uthoff (120), Jarod Cadena (182) and Jonah Manson also won twice on the mat.

Hawks, Lions, J-Hawks in mat rankings

Three Metro wrestling teams are ranked in the Top 10 of the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association dual meet poll this week.

The Prairie Hawks are ranked fourth in Class 3A, Linn-Mar is fifth and Jefferson is ninth.

The top three teams in Class 3A are Bettendorf, Waverly-Shell Rock and Southeast Polk.

The dual meet rankings are used to determine which 16 teams will advance to the dual meet postseason tournament.

Mims leads Prairie by Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - Michael Mims scored 22 points Tuesday night as Cedar Rapids Prairie won its first Mississippi Valley Conference game of the season with a 55-51 victory at Cedar Falls.

Mitch Lorenz had 15 points and JoJo Simpson contributed 11 for Prairie (3-7, 1-5).

 

Prairie girls lose to Cedar Falls

Cedar Rapids Prairie scored only 17 points in the second half Tuesday night and lost to Cedar Falls, 49-40, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Cyerra Hutchins led Prairie (5-5) with 12 points and Madison Dellamuth scored 10.

Emma Gerdes and Madison Wood netted 12 points apiece for Cedar Falls (6-4).
