Hempstead rally stuns Prairie boys

DUBUQUE - Dubuque Hempstead used a 13-point margin in the fourth quarter to rally past Prairie, 60-56, Monday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game.

Michael Mims scored 21 points to lead Prairie (2-7, 0-5). Mitch Lorenz added 13 and Austin Fisher had eight.

Prairie led 27-21 at halftime and 48-39 after three quarters. But the Hawks were outscored 21-8 in the final period.

Kacena paces Prairie in bowling loss

IOWA CITY - Josh Kacena had the ball rolling for Prairie with a 243 game and 431 series, but the Hawks were clipped by Iowa City West, 2842-2787, Monday in boys bowling at Colonial Lanes.

Sawyer Hansen rolled a 242 game and had a 419 series for Prairie.

West's John Peterson shot high game with a 244. The Trojans' Eric Vidhamali had high series with a 436.

Westemeier's hot hand leads Prairie girls to win

IOWA CITY - Amber Westemeier had the hot hand Monday for the Prairie girls, rolling a 226 game and 406 series that led the Hawks past Iowa City West, 2605-2492, in a bowling meet at Colonial Lanes.

Hailey Tollefson shot a 205 game for Prairie.

Hutchins paces Hawks by Mt. Pleasant

Cyerra Hutchins popped in three 3-pointers and scored 19 points Saturday as Cedar Rapids Prairie defeated Mount Pleasant, 54-38, in a Rivalry Saturday game at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Olivia Usher hit two triples and scored 12 points for the Hawks (6-4). Hutchins was credited with 10 rebounds and five assists.

Taryne Shull and Kelsi Phipps scored 11 points apiece for Mount Pleasant (7-3).

Prairie matmen win 3 titles in Ames

AMES - Sam Uthoff, Josh Wenger and Trey Blaha won individual titles for Cedar Rapids Prairie Saturday at the Mendenhall Invitational wrestling tournament in Ames.

The Hawks placed second in the 20-team tournament with 184.5 points. Waverly-Shell Rock won the championship with 209 points.

Uthoff won the 120-pound title with two pins and a 12-6 decision in the finals. Wenger prevailed at 138 pounds with a pin, two technical falls and a 3-1 verdict in the finals. Blaha rolled to the 152-pound crown with three pins and a 12-3 major decision in the final round.
