No.1 Saints stuff Prairie, 23-0

The Xavier Saints like to keep things simple on defense.

Simply outstanding. Simply impressive. And simply suffocating.

The top-ranked Saints held Prairie to 92 yards of total offense Friday night and squashed the Hawks, 23-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

Pritts, Hawks claim titles at CR Invy

Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Mitch Pritts has been a very good distance runner for a long time now with a string of top-12 finishes at state track and cross country meets.

Now he could be ready to climb from "very good" into one of the elite high school runners in Iowa.

Pritts topped a strong field at the Cedar Rapids Invitational Thursday at Noelridge Park to help the Hawks claim the team championship by 22 points over top-ranked Linn-Mar.

Prairie golfers knock off Kennedy

Ryan Doser shot a 35 to lead Prairie to a 5-stroke win over Kennedy in a boys golf triangular Thursday at Airport National.

Prairie had four golfers shoot 37 or better and finished with a 144.

Kennedy's Cole Murdock was medalist with a 33. Seth Nutt shot a 34.

Warriors spike Prairie in straight sets

For the Cedar Rapids Washington volleyball team, a new coach means pretty much the same system that took them to within one match of the state tournament last year.

One in a bunch of first-year Metro coaches, Amy Faulkner took over the Warrior program on the first day of practice in August when former mentor Kari Lombardi resigned to move with her family to West Des Moines.

Faulkner is hardly a rookie, however, having served as an assistant the past three years and as a club-team coach for many of the girls before that.

Still, it was a milestone of sorts for her team to notch its first really convincing victory of the young season Tuesday night by sweeping Prairie in three sets on the Hawks' home court.

Pritts runs 4th at Pleasant Valley

BETTENDORF - Prairie High School senior Mitch Pritts placed fourth at the Spartan Invitational cross country meet Saturday in Bettendorf.

Pritts was timed in 16 minutes, 26 seconds. Matt Lumbar of Edina won the race in 16:04.

Prairie finished sixth out of 14 teams in the standings.

The Prairie girls placed eighth out of 13 teams in their race. Cayla Renwick led the Hawks in 26th place.
