Mougin named baseball all-state

Five players from Metro area high schools have been named to the Class 4A all-state baseball teams, the Iowa Newspaper Association announced Tuesday.

Austin Stroschein of Linn-Mar, Brandt Ollinger of Linn-Mar and Ty Mougin of Prairie were named second team all-state by the INA.

Jimmy Roth of Linn-Mar and Zach Brown of Xavier were named third team all-state.

Jones, Kuch named softball all-state

Eight players from Metro area high schools have been named to the 2013 all-state softball teams, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Maddie Hansen, Alyssa Olson, Kaitlyn Davidson and Dani Stromert from Cedar Rapids Jefferson made the Class 5A all-state team.

Mallory Jones and Katie Kuch of Cedar Rapids Prairie also made the Class 5A all-state team.

Erin Drahozal and Sydney Galligan of Xavier were named to the Class 4A all-state team.

4 Prairie ballplayers headed to Japan

Four baseball players from Cedar Rapids Prairie are preparing to play a series of games on the other side of the world.

Ty Mougin, Tyler Butz, Brennan Hammer and Tyler Votroubek are members of an Iowa AAU squad that will leave Thursday for a seven-day tour of Japan.

The Iowans will participate in a cultural exchange, enjoy some sightseeing and stay with host families in Yamanashi, Japan.

Adams chosen for IHSBCA Series

Prairie baseball pitcher Mitch Adams has been selected to play on the Large Schools East Squad in the IHSBCA All-Star Series next week in Des Moines.

Adams is the only Metro player chosen to play in this year's series, which will be held Aug. 8-11 at West Des Moines Valley and Principal Park.

Linn-Mar Coach Chad Lechner will be an assistant coach for the Large Schools East.

Mougin honored on MVC baseball team

Cedar Rapids Prairie shortstop Ty Mougin has been named the Valley Division Athlete of the Year on the 2013 Mississippi Valley Conference all-star baseball team.

The Linn-Mar Lions garnered four spots on the Valley Division first team with Austin Stroschein, Jimmy Roth, Brandt Ollinger and Mitch Stickney.

Prairie claimed three first-team berths with Mougin, Tyler Butz and Caleb Davison. Zach Brown of Xavier also made the first unit in the Valley Division.

Derek Jacobus and Zach Daniels from Kennedy were first-team selections in the Mississippi Division. Spencer VanScoyoc of Jefferson also made the first team.
