No.6 Hawks nip No.3 Warriors in boys soccer

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team has never won a conference title, never made the state tournament and until this year had never been ranked in the Top 10.

The times could be changing.

The sixth-ranked Hawks trimmed No.3 Cedar Rapids Washington, 1-0, Thursday on a goal by sophomore Logan Rindernecht with 1 minute, 51 seconds left in the second half on a cold, damp, raw night at Prairie.

No.7 Prairie wins soccer tourney

The seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team did not allow a goal all day and took top honors at the Linn-Mar Challenger Cup Tournament Saturday.

Prairie nipped Linn-Mar, 1-0, in the finals.

Nermin Ibrahimovic scored an unassisted goal for the Hawks in the finals and Adam Kueny collected his second shutout in the tournament as Prairie's keeper.

Prairie jumps to No.7 in soccer poll

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team climbed from No.15 to No.7 in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 3A rankings Tuesday.

The Hawks upset then-No.2 Johnston, 2-1, and blanked Urbandale, 6-0, at the Prairie Invitational on Saturday.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy is ranked No.9 and Cedar Rapids Washington is ranked No.10 this week as they also climbed in the poll.

Xavier remained in the No.3 spot in Class 2A.

Prairie trips No.2 Johnston in soccer

The 15th-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team opened the season in style Saturday at its own tournament.

The Hawks blanked Urbandale, 6-0, and nudged No.2 Johnston, 2-1, in a PK Shootout.

The Jefferson J-Hawks lost both of their matches in the tournament to Johnston, 6-0, and Urbandale, 2-0.

Prairie wins relay at Pleasant Valley

BETTENDORF -- Cedar Rapids Prairie captured the 4x200 relay at the Pleasant Valley boys track meet Thursday for its only victory.

The Hawks won the race in 1:31.98.

Haakon Wilz placed second in the 110 hurdles and long jump for Prairie.

Demetrius Harper finished second in the 100-meter dash, and Josh Williams took second in the shot put.
