Scorching hot Saints torch Prairie bowlers

Xavier bowlers Caleb Miller and Zach Klimesh had the hot hand Tuesday, rolling series of 504 and 482, respectively, that led Xavier past Prairie, 3277-2954, in boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Miller shot games of 226 and 278. The 278 was high game for the meet. Klimesh rolled games of 257 and 225.

Kirby Guge also was locked in, rolling games of 210 and 226 for a 436 series for the Saints. Kyle Elliott fired a 217 game and 418 series.

Palmer rolls Prairie girls past Xavier

Katlynn Palmer had the line Tuesday, firing games of 215 and 210 for a 425 series that propelled Prairie past Xavier, 2600-2499, in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Niona Bruce also fired a 200 game for Prairie.

Tara Trcka shot the high game with a 217 for Xavier. She finished with a 400 series.

Hawks sending 8 to state

Linn-Mar wrestling coach Doug Streicher never panicked when the Lions kept losing to Cedar Rapids Prairie during the season.

He knew he had a potent lineup that could accomplish great things this season once it was healthy and fully assembled.

They proved it Saturday.

Linn-Mar topped Prairie for the Class 3A district title with an impressive performance Saturday and qualified a school-record 12 grapplers for the state meet.

Prairie girls claim 1st MVC title

WATERLOO - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team came home from Waterloo Friday night with big smiles and a big prize.

The Hawks won their first Mississippi Valley Conference title in school history with an impressive 53-45 victory over Waterloo West.

"I'm very excited for the kids. They deserve it," said Prairie Coach Steve Doser. "They played so well and so hard. I'm just very proud."

Prairie boys tamed by Waterloo West

Carderrius Smith had 23 points the last time Waterloo West played Prairie. The Hawks lost that game by four points.

Prairie held Smith to 13 points Friday night, but four other Wahawks combined for 38 points and West walked out of the Prairie gym with a 58-49 boys basketball victory.

Tom Eilers scored 20 points to lead Prairie (5-14, 4-10). Jace Hanna had 17.
