Xavier girls tennis wins twice

The Xavier girls tennis team won both of its matches against Mississippi Valley Conference teams from Waterloo Saturday at Xavier.

The Saints topped Waterloo West, 7-2, and blanked Waterloo East, 9-0.

Maddie Abu-Nameh, Sarah Abu-Nameh, Camryn McPherson and Macy Lembeck won both of their singles matches for Xavier.

Kramer leads Xavier golfers at Airport

Libby Kramer shot a 17-over-par 49 to lead the Xavier girls golf team in a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular meet at Airport National Thursday.

Amanda Happel and Lexi Poundstone of Prairie shared medalist honors at 10-over 42.

Saints boot Trojans in soccer classic

IOWA CITY - The Xavier Saints and Iowa City West Trojans, who have  combined for 15 state titles in boys soccer, waged a classic battle in  Iowa City West on Thursday.

Thomas Bean scored with 90 seconds left in double-overtime to give  Xavier a 2-1 victory over Iowa City West in a Mississippi Valley  Conference thriller.

Iowa City West is ranked No. 3 in Class 3A and Xavier is ranked No. 4  in Class 2A.

Luke Duball intercepted a pass and fed Bean for the game-winning goal  as the Saints raised their record to 2-0.

Bean also scored Xavier's first goal on a penalty kick after Duball  had been fouled by Iowa City West.

Iowa City West took a quick 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of the  match, but the Trojans never scored again. Xavier Coach Amir Hadzic  credited Xavier goalie Owen McCarron with making several terrific saves to keep the Trojans off the board.

   

Saints run 7th at Dunsworth Invitational

DAVENPORT - Ethan Brown and George Durin led the Xavier boys track  team to a seventh-place finish at the Dunsworth Invitational at Brady Street Stadium in Davenport Thursday.

Brown placed second in the shot put at 45 feet, 9 inches and Durin finished second in the 110 hurdles in 16.12 seconds. The Saints also  placed second in the 3200 relay in 8:45.99.

Jax Junge finished third in the 200 meter dash (23.47) and the Saints finished third in the 1600 relay (3:37.21).

Bettendorf won the meet with 135 points.

Xavier girls tennis falls to IC West

IOWA CITY - Sarah Abu-Nameh of Xavier defeated Vivian Mitchell of Iowa  City West, 10-6, at No. 4 singles Thursday in their Mississippi Valley  Conference meet in Iowa City.

Iowa City West won the meet, 7-2.

Maddie Abu-Nameh and Sarah Schirm claimed their match at No. 2 doubles  for the Saints.
