Xavier boys tennis swept by IC West

Jiung Jung of Iowa City West topped Jon Lansing of Xavier, 6-1, 6-0,  at No. 1 singles Thursday as the Trojans blanked the Saints 9-0 in a  Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Xavier.

Techau commits to St. Thomas basketball

Max Techau helped Xavier High School win a pair of Class 3A state basketball titles the last two years. Now he'll be joining a college basketball program that won the NCAA Division III national title in  2016.

Techau, a 6-foot-7 forward, plans to play at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., a Catholic school that has made 12 straight trips to the national tournament.

Techau averarged 12.3 points and 8.8 rebounds for Xavier this season as the Saints captured the state title for the second year in a row. He averaged 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds as a junior.

St. Thomas finished 19-8 this season and was 15-5 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

 

Xavier boys take 1,600 medley at L-M

The Xavier Saints won the 1,600-meter medley relay at the Clark Weaver Lion Relays at Linn-Mar Stadium Tuesday.

Kaiden Cuevas, John Rocca, Jax Junge and Josh Gerke captured the event in 3 minutes, 42.46 seconds.

The Saints finished third in four events with Nathan Skala in the 800 (2:05.79), Ethan Brown in the discus (139-10), the 3,200 relay  (8:38.09) and the shuttle hurdle relay (1:03.64).

Kennedy edged Linn-Mar for the title, 130-129. Xavier placed fifth out of eight teams with 57 points.

Xavier girls boot Waterloo West

WATERLOO - Caitlynn Daniels, Addy Hoffman and Peyton Sadilek scored goals Tuesday as the Xavier girls soccer team topped Waterloo West, 3-1, in the season opener in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Waterloo.

Daniels began the scoring midway through the first quarter with an assist from Elena Minor. Hoffman scored an unassisted goal at the beginning of the second half to make it 2-0.

Waterloo West countered to pull within 2-1, but Sadilek provided the clinching goal with an assist from Hoffman.

 

No. 4 Xavier boys blank Waterloo West

Thomas Bean collected two goals and an assist Tuesday as the Class 2A fourth-ranked Xavier Saints blanked Waterloo West, 5-0, in the first game of the soccer campaign at Xavier.

Jon Jacobi, Will Hanigan and Brian Lang also scored for the Saints in the Mississippi Valley Conference match.

Luke Duball had two assists for Xavier. Nick Koechner and Hanigan also picked up assists.

Owen McCarron and Nolan Dostal shared time in goal for the shutout.
