Cedar Valley girls win soccer title

GOOSE LAKE - The Cedar Valley Christian girls soccer team won the title at the Northeast Goose Lake tournament Saturday with a pair of tight victories.

The Huskies blanked Northeast Goose Lake, 1-0, on a goal by Elisabeth Fields on a corner kick by Emma Slagle.

Cedar Valley trimmed West Liberty, 2-1, on goals by Megan Slagle and Destiny Hawkins. Hawkins and Marie Cechota had assists.

Moriah Winkel was the goalkeeper for the Huskies in both games.

Geels scores 16 in C.V. Christian boys’ loss

Travis Geels scored 16 points to lead the Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team in a 52-41 loss to Prince of Peace on Tuesday at Cedar Valley Christian.

Tom Scroggs added 10 points for the Huskies (0-9).

Stevon Morgan had 11 points for Prince of Peace (2-9), and Quinn Schnier had 10 points.

PRINCE OF PEACE (52): Morgan 5 1-2 11, Schnier 5 0-2 10, Irish 2 0-2 5, Kaczinski 1 1-3 4, Jankowski 2 1-2 6, Drury 0 3-4 3, Marlowe 3 1-2 7, Moeller 1 1-2 4, Bilek 2 3-3 7. Totals 21 11-22 52.

CEDAR VALLEY CHRISTIAN (41): Crittenden 0 0-2 2, Glenski 1 0-0 3, Gustafson 0 0-0 0, T.Scroggs 4 22-4 10, M.Scroggs 1 2-2 4, Geels 7 0-0 16, Xu 1 0-0 2, Johnson 2 2-2 6, Ridder 0 0-0 0. Totals 16 6-10 41.
