Muhlbach has big day for Huskies

CLINTON - Will Muhlbach collected six hits for Cedar Valley Christian Friday in a doubleheader against Prince of Peace in Clinton.

Prince of Peace won both games, 12-0 in five innings and 10-7.

Muhlbach went 2-for-3 in the first game and was 4-for-4 with three runs scored in the second game.

Evan Koch went 3-for-4 and Eric Gustafson drove in two runs in the nightcap for Cedar Valley Christian (0-7).

Huskies drop a pair at Tipton

TIPTON - Cedar Valley Christian dropped a baseball doubleheader Wednesday at Tipton.

Tipton won the first game, 22-3, and the Tigers took the second, 13-1.

Caleb Severson drove in Cedar Valley's only run in the nightcap. Tipton blew the game open with a 10-run second inning.

Koch hits historic homer for Huskies

BELLEVUE - Evan Koch earned a spot in the Cedar Valley Christian history books Tuesday.

Koch hit the first home run in school history when he belted a solo shot over the left-field fence in the sixth inning against Bellevue Marquette in the first game of a doubleheader.

Marquette swept the doubleheader, 11-3 and 11-1 in five innings.

Tom Scroggs had two hits for Cedar Valley Christian (0-3) in the first game. Will Muhlbach had two stolen bases.

Cedar Valley baseball coach resigns

Randy Gustafson resigned Monday as the baseball coach at Cedar Valley Christian.

"Our head coach resigned two days ago because his work schedule has changed and he is no longer available to commit to the hours it takes to coach," CVC athletic director Stephanie Hodge stated Wednesday.

Assistant coach Tom Walsh has been named the acting head coach.

Cedar Valley Christian began its varsity baseball program last year and finished with an 0-18 record.

Huskies draw Alburnett in 1A district

Cedar Valley Christian will face Alburnett in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A district baseball tournament on Tuesday, July 10 at the North Linn High School field in Troy Mills.

The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Cedar Valley Christian joined the Iowa High School Athletic Association this year and had an 0-14 record heading into Tuesday's game against BGM. The Huskies had been outscored, 212-18, in the first 14 contests.

Alburnett has a 14-8 record.

Bellevue Marquette, Prince of Peace, Preston, Calamus-Wheatland, Midland, North-Linn and Springville are in Class 1A District 7 with Cedar Valley Christian and Anamosa.

The winner between Cedar Valley Christian and Alburnett will play North-Linn or Springville in the district semifinals on Thursday, July 12.
