No.4 Kirkwood women win 20th game

MASON CITY - Madison Wood collected 23 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots Saturday as the fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team defeated NIACC, 83-76, in an ICCAC conference game in Mason City.

Wood also had two steals and two assists.

Kirkwood raised its records to 20-4 overall and 7-0 in the conference. NIACC fell to 12-10 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Ariana Dampier contributed 13 points for the Eagles.

Wood paces No. 4 Kirkwood women

Madison Wood collected 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots Wednesday night as the fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team spanked Ellsworth, 61-34, in an ICCAC conference game at Johnson Hall.

Caitlin Sudduth popped in four 3-pointers and contributed 15 points for the Eagles (19-4, 6-0). Abbie Oberman hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points. Casey Miles furnished five assists and Mesha Wheatly came up with five steals.

Antoinette Williams scored nine points for Ellsworth (3-17, 0-7).

Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

No. 4 Eagles pull away from Blackhawks

The Kirkwood Eagles played only one good quarter of basketball Wednesday night, but it was good enough to collect an important victory.

The fourth-ranked Eagles came alive in the fourth quarter and finally subdued Southeastern, 65-50, in an ICCAC women's basketball game at Johnson Hall.

The victory lifted Kirkwood to 17-4 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Blackhawks fell to 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

The Eagles trailed, 39-37, late in the third quarter before they finally got untracked. Cyerra Hutchins hit a 3-pointer to give Kirkwood a 40-39 edge, then Rylee Voss scored for the Eagles to make it 42-39 heading into the fourth period.

Kirkwood popped in the first 10 points of the final stanza, finishing a decisive 15-0 spurt that gave them a comfortable lead at 52-39. The Eagles outscored Southeastern 23-11 in the final 10 minutes to take command.

Kirkwood opened an 18-point lead late in the game before settling for the 15-point victory.

Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

Wood leads No.4 Kirkwood women in romp

CRESTON - Madison Wood scored 18 points and blocked five shots Saturday as the fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team strolled by Southwestern, 81-28, in an ICCAC conference game in Creston.

Deleyah Harris finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles (16-4, 3-0). Addie Oberman had 11 points.

Southwestern fell to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.

KIRKWOOD (81): Harris 5 0-0 13, Miles 1 6-8 9, Wheatly 1 2-2 4, Oberman 4 0-0 11, Sudduth 3 0-0 9, Voss 2 2-3 6, Hutchins 3 0-0 8, Dampier 1 1-1 3, Jennings 0 0-0 0, Wood 8 2-2 18. Totals 28 13-16 81.

Kirkwood - Womens Basketball

No. 4 KCC women roll by No. 10 DMACC

The Kirkwod women's basketball team was twice as good in the first half Wednesday night than it was in the second half, but the Eagles were still plenty good enough to handle DMACC at Johnson Hall.

The fourth-ranked Eagles poured in 48 points in the opening stanza and tailed off to 24 points in the second half, but it added up to a convincing 72-57 victory over the 10th-ranked Bears in a conference game.

Kirkwood (15-4, 2-0) opened a 25-point lead and cruised to victory.

"I thought we played really well," said Kirkwood Coach Kim Muhl. "The kids hit shots and played with a lot of energy."

Muhl was a little miffed by some of his team's quick shots in the final minutes with a big lead, but overall he was happy to get an important victory over a quality opponent.

"We outplayed them," he said. "We should have beat them by 30.
