KCC women get forfeit from Iowa Lakes

Iowa Lakes Community College has forfeited its women's basketball game against Kirkwood that was scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Estherville.

Kirkwood athletic director Doug Wagemester said Iowa Lakes has only six or seven players on its roster. In addition, he said Iowa Lakes Coach Corey Christopher has resigned.

Iowa Lakes is a member of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with Kirkwood.

Kirkwood has already been awarded a forfeit by the conference office, giving the fourth-ranked Eagles a 14-4 overall record and 1-0 mark in the league. Iowa Lakes is now 10-6 and 0-1 in the league.

Wagemester said Iowa Lakes has been given approximately one week to decide whether it will continue with the rest of the women's basketball schedule this season.

No. 6 KCC women make tourney finals

PEORIA, Ill. - Caitlin Sudduth scored 17 points for the second straight game Tuesday as No. 6 Kirkwood topped Schoolcraft, 59-41, in the semifinals of the Illinois Central Holiday Tournament.

The Eagles (13-3) will face NIACC or Illinois Central in the championship game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Deleyah Harris scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Kirkwood won its 10th straight game. Madison Wood contributed nine points and 12 rebounds. Cyerra Hutchins provided eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

No. 6 Kirkwood women win 9th in row

PEORIA, Ill. - Caitlin Sudduth scored 17 points and collected five assists Monday as the sixth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball rolled by Sauk Valley, 71-40, in the opening round of the Illinois Central holiday tournament.

The Eagles (12-3) won their ninth straight game after beginning the season with a 3-3 mark.

Madison Wood tossed in 11 points for Kirkwood. A.J. Downs had five steals.

The Eagles will face Schoolcraft in the semifinals Tuesday at 2 p.m.

CHICAGO - Madison Wood poured in 20 points Saturday and Caitlin Sudduth had 19 as the sixth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team drubbed Highland, 86-37, at the South Suburban Classic in the Chicago suburbs.

Cyerra Hutchins added 10 points for Kirkwood (11-3). Wood grabbed nine rebounds, Hutchins had six assists and A.J. Downs made five steals.

CHICAGO - Cyerra Hutchins led a balanced attack with 12 points Friday as the sixth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles defeated Lansing, 69-45, at the South Suburban Classic in the Chicago suburbs.

Caitlin Sudduth scored 10 points for the Eagles (10-3). Casey Miles and Madison Wood had nine points apiece.
