No. 13 Eagles split with DMACC

BOONE - The Kirkwood Eagles scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning Friday to trim DMACC, 7-6, and split their conference doubleheader in Boone.

DMACC won the first game, 9-3.

The split left the 13th-ranked Eagles with an 18-4 record in the ICCAC Conference, leaving them in a tight battle with 18th-ranked Southeastern (19-5) and 12th-ranked NIACC (17-5) for the title.

Jack Fitzgerald drove in three runs for Kirkwood in the nightcap. General McArthur was 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Emanuel Castellano picked up the victory in relief and Dariel Checo pitched the bottom of the ninth for a save.

Kirkwood and DMACC are scheduled to play another twinbill Sunday.

Kirkwood (32-14) will finish the conference race next weekend with two doubleheaders against Southeastern, with one twinbill in West Burlington Friday and the other doubleheader at Kirkwood Saturday.

No. 17 Eagles sweep Iowa Lakes again

ESTHERVILLE - The 17th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles swept their second straight doubleheader from Iowa Lakes Sunday to remain in first place in the ICCAC Conference baseball standings.

Kirkwood edged the Lakers, 5-4, in the first game and claimed the nightcap 16-6.

The Eagles raised their record to 17-3 in the ICCAC with eight games left in the conference race. The Eagles are 31-13 overall and riding an eight-game winning streak.

Matt Paciello went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the 5-4 victory. Jack Fitzgerald had two hits and Colin Kreiter scored two runs.

Brock Neuhaus pitched six innings for the victory and Dariel Checo collected a save with a scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh after the Eagles had taken the lead in the top of the seventh.

JT Sole belted a grand slam and drove in five runs in the 16-6 triumph. Paciello was 4-for-4 and scored three times.

General McArthur was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs. Tyler Border drove in two runs and scored four times. Kreiter was 2-for-3 with two runs and Fitzgerald drove in three runs.

Austin Clemens got the win for Kirkwood.

Iowa Lakes fell to 12-23 overall and 3-17 in the conference.

No. 17 Eagles sweep Iowa Lakes

ESTHERVILLE - The 17th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles swept Iowa Lakes Saturday, 7-4 and 15-3, to stay in first place in the ICCAC Conference baseball standings.

Kirkwood raised its ICCAC record to 15-3 with its sixth straight league victory. The Eagles lead Southeastern (14-4) and NIACC (15-5) by one game with 10 games left.

Matt Paciello went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Kirkwood in the first game. Bryce Grimm went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Colin Krieter socked a home run. Ethan Howard got the victory and Dariel Checo collected a save.

General McArthur was 4-for-4 in the second game for the Eagles. Paciello went 3-for-4 with another home run and three RBIs. JT Sole and Krieter had two hits. Tyler Bordner drove in two runs.

Nick Drahozal picked up the victory in the six-inning game.

Kirkwood raised its overall record to 29-13. Iowa Lakes fell to 12-21 overall and 3-15 in the league. The Eagles and Lakers meet in another doubleheader Sunday.

No. 19 Eagles sweep Iowa Central again

The Kirkwood baseball team swept a doubleheader from Iowa Central Sunday for the second straight day and won all four games in the weekend series against the Tritons.

The 19th-ranked Eagles won the first game, 13-3, and took the nightcap 13-10.

Kirkwood raised its records to 27-13 overall and 13-3 in the ICCAC conference standings. The Eagles lead NIACC and Southeastern by one game in the league race with 12 games remaining.

Kirkwood outscored Iowa Central, 48-20, in the four games. Iowa Central fell to 20-8 overall and 9-7 in the league.

Jack Fitzgerald and Brandon Brittain belted home runs for Kirkwood in the first game. Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Colin Kreiter, Tyler Butz and General McArthur had two hits. Kreiter, Brittain and McArthur had two RBIs.

Brock Neuhaus pitched a complete game for Kirkwood in the first game, which ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. He allowed only one earned run and five hits.

JT Sole and Brittain socked home runs for the Eagles in the second game. Sole and Kreiter had three hits and two RBIs. Fitzgerald, Matt Paciello, Brittain and McArthur had two hits.

Kirkwood took a 13-6 lead into the ninth inning of the nightcap, but Iowa Central rallied for four runs and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. Zach Morrissey came in from the bullpen at that point and got the final out for a save.

No. 19 Eagles slam No. 9 Iowa Central

The Kirkwood Eagles enjoyed a grand day at the ballpark Saturday.

Matt Paciello began the doubleheader with a grand slam and JT Sole finished the twin-bill with another four-run homer as the 19th-ranked Eagles swept No. 9 Iowa Central, 11-1 and 11-6, in an ICCAC double-dip at the Kirkwood field.

Nick Drahozal tossed a two-hitter in the first game, Brandon Brittain delivered the game-winning hit in the second game and everybody who played made a contribution to the big victories.

The sweep lifted Kirkwood into sole possession of first place in the ICCAC with an 11-3 record at the mid-point of the conference race, one full game ahead of NIACC and Southeastern and two games ahead of Iowa Central.

The Eagles (25-13) had dropped 5 of 6 games heading into Saturday's action, but Paciello steered them in the right direction when he socked his grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener.

Kirkwood loaded the bases with nobody out, but the next two batters were retired before Paciello lined a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for an early 4-0 lead.
