Kirkwood sets showcase for HS baseball

The Kirkwood Community College baseball program will hold an Indoor Showcase for high school players on Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Michael J. Gould Recreation Center on campus.

The showcase is for any high school player. The cost is $50 and pre-registration is required by calling (319) 398-1022 or 800-332-8833.

All players will be evaluated in a pro-style workout. Players should bring baseball pants or sweatpants, tennis shoes, T-shirt, glove, cap and a bat. Catchers should bring their gear.

The check-in for the showcase is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., with the showcase beginning at 11 a.m.

Schenck-Joblinske signs with Aggies

Eric Schenck-Joblinske hopes to prove that a kid from a small town in Iowa can play big-time college baseball at Texas A&M University.

Schenck-Joblinske, an outfielder who hit .362 for the Kirkwood Eagles last season, signed his national letter-of-intent with Texas A&M Wednesday at Johnson Hall on the KCC campus.

"It still hasn't sunk in yet," he said. "I don't think it will set in until I step on campus."

Schenck-Joblinske grew up in New Hartford and attended Dike-New Hartford High School before coming to Kirkwood in 2012.

Gonzalez named baseball all-American

Kirkwood infielder/catcher Dairo Gonzalez has been named to the NJCAA Division II all-American baseball team.

Gonzalez, a sophomore from Lake Worth, Fla., was named to the first team. He batted .413 with eight home runs and 51 RBIs for the Eagles.

Gonzalez is Kirkwood's first All-American since Travis Bennett was named to the first team in 2007.

Rima signs 8 for Kirkwood baseball

Todd Rima plans to build the Kirkwood baseball program with players from his own back yard, but he'll also search far and wide for top-notch talent.

That philosophy is reflected in his first full recruiting class with the Eagles.

Rima has signed eight players to letters-of-intent for the 2014 season and the new class is split evenly between in-state recruits and players from Colorado, New York, Puerto Rico and Australia.

KCC baseball season ends in tears

WATERLOO - Kirkwood Coach Todd Rima hugged all of his players Saturday after they played their final game of the 2013 season.

There were tears in their eyes.

The Eagles battled No.2 DMACC for much of the day before falling, 9-2, in the losers bracket of the NJCAA DII regional tournament at Riverfront Stadium on a cold, blustery day in Waterloo.
