Wartburg takes pair from Coe

WAVERLY - Wartburg swept a pair of Iowa Conference baseball games from Coe Saturday, winning 4-0 and 6-4 before 275 fans at Hertel Field.

Senior Ben Rettenmeier, a former Kirkwood and Cedar Rapids Jefferson player, pitched his fifth complete game of the year for Wartburg, striking out seven to earn the win in the opener.

Jackson Litterer had two hits and drove in two runs for the winners.

Sprinkel, Galbraith lead Coe netters

The Coe College men's tennis team raised its record to 16-4 Friday with a 7-2 victory over Wheaton College at the Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids.

Noah Sprinkel defeated Ryan Kreis at No.1 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Riley Galbraith clipped Justin Ancona at No.2 singles, 6-1, 7-6.

Coe splits twinbill with Cornell

No. 9 Coe and Cornell split a softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Clark Field on the Coe campus.

The visitors (6-5) scored four runs in the top of the ninth on Kendra Christensen's grand slam to take the opener, 7-3. The Kohawks battled back to take the nightcap 5-2.

Danielle Schlotterbeck had a 3-run homer in the first for Coe. Each team scored three in the first inning and neither scored again until Christensen's grand slam in the ninth.

Brianna Gardner had two hits for Coe.

In Game 2, Nicole Gentile was 3-for-3 with a pair of homers and a double, driving home four runs in a game called due to darkness after 5 1/2 innings. Arrran Weeces picked up the win, allowing 2 runs on six hits.

Coe (14-3) returns to action Saturday, hosting Ripon in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.

Rodgers nets success with Coe tennis

After spending 25 years coaching tennis at Coe and rolling up more than 700 victories, Eric Rodgers can offer his players valuable advice for all aspects of their life.

He’s learned a lot over the past 25 years and said that while much has changed during his time at Coe, one thing stands out.

“Me. My hair. It used to be shoulder length and now it’s non-existent,” he said.

Coe splits with Simpson on chilly day

INDIANOLA - AJ Reuter helped the Coe baseball team defeat Simpson with his arm and his bat Sunday afternoon.

Reuter drove in two runs and pitched six strong innings as the Kohawks trimmed Simpson, 3-1, in the second game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader on a 30-degree day in Indianola.

Reuter allowed five hits and one run with four strikeouts. Jack Hoffmann pitched three shutout innings for the save for Coe.
