Coe women top Augustana in tennis

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. —  Jordan Ferree, Laura Birky and Elizabeth Hoffmann won their singles matches Saturday as Coe trimmed Augustana (Ill.), 5-4, in a women's tennis match in Rock Island.

Coe also got key victories from Tai Lucero/Ferree and Sarah Lasecki/Tamara Washington in doubles.

The Kohawks (15-3) lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater, 8-1, in their other match Saturday. Lasecki picked up a victory for Coe at No.6 singles.

Boyer aims to finish career with NCAA title

When you spot a wrestler named Dimitri, you expect to meet someone from Russia.

Not this guy.

Dimitri Boyer is from Eddyville, a small town in southeast Iowa of about 1,024 folks down by Oskaloosa and Ottumwa. He was a two-time state champion at Eddyville-Blakesburg High School, where he fashioned an impressive 180-12 record before enrolling at Coe College four years ago.

Timmons wins 900th game as coach

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Coe softball team defeated RPI, 4-3, Saturday in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Bob Timmons his 900th victory as a college head coach.

The game was tied, 3-3, when Abby Flannagan led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left-center. Taylor Riedl bunted Flannagan to third and she scored on a game-winning single to left-center by Emily Grell.

Maddison Woodruff (5-0) got the victory in relief. Aaran Weeces pitched six-plus innings for the Kohawks and collected 10 strikeouts.

Kohawks split games with Rockford

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Thomas Gandolfi scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning Saturday to give Coe the go-ahead run in a 3-2 victory over Rockford in the first game of a doubleheader in Winter Haven, Fla.

Rockford won the second game, 8-1.

The first game was tied 2-2 when Gandolfi drew a walk with one out in the top of the ninth. Jack Hoffmann hit a pinch-hit double, putting runners at second and third. Ben Larison was given an intentional walk, loading the bases with one out.

Coe tennis team splits in Florida

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Coe College men's tennis split a pair of matches in Florida Friday.

The Kohawks blanked the College of Staten Island, 9-0, in their first match with Mark Kroll, Jeff Damisch, Daken Starkenburg, Bill Young, Tyrin Wages and Justin Sauter winning their singles contests.

Coe lost to Presbyterian College, 6-3, in their second outing. Noah Sprinkel and Michael Janssen won singles matches for the Kohawks (11-3).
