Coe baseball team trimmed by Wheaton

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Coe baseball team got tight pitching Friday but dropped a 3-2 verdict to Wheaton College (Mass.), 3-2, on its spring trip in Florida.

Kyle Brady gave up three runs in 5.2 innings and took the loss. Jack Hoffmann pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Cole Tomlinson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Kohawks (2-3). Craig Konrardy scored both runs.

Coe is scheduled to play a doubleheader against Rockford University on Saturday.

 

Coe softball team wins 2 in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Coe softball team raised its record to 8-1 Friday with a pair of victories on its spring trip in Florida.

The Kohawks defeated Houghton College, 9-0, in five innings in their first game. They tripped John Carroll, 7-1, in a night game that took 3 hours, 15 minutes and was played at two different complexes due to problems with the lights.

Maddison Woodruff (4-0) tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the victory over John Carroll. Brianna Gardner and Abby Flannagan had two hits.

Coe is scheduled to play its final two games Saturday morning before heading back to Cedar Rapids.

 

Franklin takes 2nd in triple jump

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Erik Franklin of Coe College placed second in the triple jump at 45 feet, 1 inch at an indoor track meet in Platteville, Wis., Friday.

Kenzie Drahn of Coe finished sixth in the women's triple jump at 34-1 1/4.

   

Flannagan homers in Coe win

MINNEOLA, Fla. - Abby Flannagan homered and drove in three runs Thursday to lead Coe past DeSales, 7-1, in college softball.

The game was shortened to five innings because of rain.

Flannagan had two of Coe's five hits.

Arran Weeces (3-0) allowed only one hit and struck out six. She also walked five.

Reed, Wirth, Breitbach honored by IIAC

Mackenzie Reed and Andrew Wirth from Coe College have received first-team honors on the 2014 Iowa Conference all-star basketball teams.

Hannah Breitbach of Coe was named the co-Defensive Player of the Year on the women's team. Her sister, Kaitlin, won the same award in 2011.

Breitbach and Megan Hayes were named second team all-conference. Mickey Hansche received honorable mention on the women's team.
