Reuter, Alberhasky sharp for Kohawks

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - A.J. Reuter had five hits and was the winning pitcher in the nightcap Monday leading the Coe baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Aurora, 9-0 and 3-1.

Connor Alberhasky was the winning pitcher in the opener and Michael Goerdt slugged a home run.

Reuter was 3-for-4 and drove in all three runs in the nightcap.

Local preps help Coe women to tennis win

ORLANDO, Fla. - Coe won twice in doubles and edged Evangel, 5-4, in women's tennis Monday at the Lake Cane Tennis Park.

Coe's No.3 doubles team of Sarah Lasecki, a freshman from Kennedy, and Tamara Washington won 8-0.

Former Xavier prep Laura Birky, a sophomore, teamed with Diannah Watson at No.2 doubles for an 8-4 win.

Birky also won at No.4 singles, 6-0, 7-5. She was the only Kohawk to post a pair of wins.

Weeces, Woodruff shine for Kohawks

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomore Arran Weeces tossed a no-hitter Sunday as the 21st-ranked Coe softball team blanked No.10 Trine, 1-0, in Florida.

Senior Maddison Woodruff pitched a two-hitter as the Kohawks blanked Aurora University, 7-0, in the first game of their spring trip Sunday.

   

Boyer leads 6 Coe matmen to nationals

DUBUQUE - Dimitri Boyer of Coe won the 157-pound title at the NCAA Division III Central Region wrestling tournament Saturday to lead a contingent of six Kohawks into the national tournament in Cedar Rapids March 14-15.

Ethan Ball (174) and Ryan Sheldon (184) placed second for Coe. Farai Sewera (165), Donnie Horner (197) and Cory Becker (285) placed third. The top three finishers in each weight class advanced to the national meet at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Wartburg won the team championship with 159 points. The Kohawks placed second out of 11 teams with 127 points.

Boyer defeated Steven DeWitt of Loras, 6-3, in the championship match at 157 pounds.

 

Loras trounces Coe for title, 81-57

DUBUQUE - Loras used a 14-3 run early in the second half to sprint past Coe, 81-57, Saturday and in the championship game of the Iowa Conference women's basketball tournament.

Loras (19-8) advances to the NCAA Division III tournament next week.

Megan Hayes scored 17 points and Mackenzie Reed 13 for Coe (16-11).
