Mount Mercy volleyball gets split

CHICAGO - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team split its two matches at the SXU-TCC Crossover Tournament in Chicago Saturday.

The Mustangs swept Roosevelt, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16, in their first match. The Mustangs lost to St. Xavier, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15 in their second outing.

Mount Mercy (4-2) also split two matches Friday, beating Trinity Lutheran 3-0 and falling to Saint Francis 3-2.

Becca Thomson had 15 kills in the victory over Roosevelt. Abbie Perez collected 20 assists and Cori Peterzalek had 10 assists. Allie McQuiston contributed 14 digs for the Mustangs.

Leslie Hoffmann, Megan Paustian and Olivia Coe had six kills in the loss to St. Xavier. Perez had 11 assists. Thomson made 11 digs.

Monson paces Mount Mercy golfers

Meg Monson of Mount Mercy shot a 10-over-par 82 Saturday and is tied for fourth place after the first round of the Mount Mercy Invitational at Hunters Ridge.

Vrishali Sinha of Grinnell has the lead with a 2-over 74.

Grinnell has an eight-shot lead over Viterbo heading into Sunday's final round. Mount Mercy stands in fourth place.

Mount Mercy men fall to Statesmen

WHITING, Ind. - Facundo Benitez scored in the 43rd minute Saturday to give William Penn a 1-0 victory over Mount Mercy in a men's soccer match at the Crimson Wave Invitational in Indiana.

The Mustangs (0-2) play Marian in a consolation match Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
