Mount Mercy women boot CMU

Megan Hall and Cally Salter scored goals Tuesday afternoon to help Mount Mercy trim Central Methodist, 2-1, in a women's soccer match at Xavier High School.

Hall struck first with an unassisted goal in the 27th minute for a 1-0 lead. Salter connected in the 45th minute with an assist from Annie Feltes for a 2-0 margin.

Ana Gonzalez scored for Central Methodist in the 54th minute, but the Mustangs kept the visitors off the scoreboard for the rest of the match. Hannah Schroeder made three saves for Mount Mercy.

The Mustangs raised their record to 2-1. Central Methodist is 0-1.

 

Mount Mercy men fall in 2 OTs

David Hillmann scored an unassisted goal in the 104th minute of the match Tuesday afternoon to give Central Methodist a 2-1 victory over Mount Mercy in double-overtime at Xavier High School.

Hillmann gave Central Methodist a quick 1-0 lead with a goal in the fourth minute, but Yinka Ajibola countered for Mount Mercy with an assist from Marco Fichtner to tie the match 1-1 in the 56th minute.

The game remained tied for another 48 minutes before Hillmann struck again.

The match at Heco Field was the season-opener for Mount Mercy.

 

Mount Mercy volleyball wins twice

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team cruised to a pair of 3-0 victories Saturday in a triangular meet at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs began the season by sweeping Purdue North Central, 25-12, 25-19, 25-21, and by topping William Penn, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14.

Cori Peterzalek collected 10 kills against Purdue North Central. Becca Thomson and Olivia Coe had eight kills for the Mustangs. Peterzalek provided 17 assists and Abbie Perez had 14 assists. Lauren Stopko contributed 17 digs.

Peterzalek led a balanced attack against William Penn with 10 kills. Leslie Hoffmann had nine kills and Thomson had eight. Perez collected 20 assists and Peterzalek had 14. Thomson had 10 digs and Allie McQuiston had eight.

   

Mount Mercy trimmed by Roosevelt

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team lost to Roosevelt, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Bridgeview, Ill.

Roosevelt took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute of the match, but Annie Feltes tied the game 1-1 with a goal in the 40th minute with an assist from Cally Salter. Feltes scored when she lifted the ball over the Roosevelt keeper's head.

Roosevelt won the game on an unassisted goal by Chelsea Olson in the 61st minute.

Hannah Schroeder made 10 saves for Mount Mercy (1-1).

 

Mount Mercy women kick Holy Cross

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Cally Slater scored an unassisted goal in overtime Friday as the Mount Mercy women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross in Indiana.

Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead in the second half, but Megan Hall tied the match for Mount Mercy with a header in the box in the 70th minute. Annie Feltes collected an assist on Hall's goal.

Slater scored the winning goal from the far right wing.

Hannah Schroeder made four saves in goal for the Mustangs.
