Mustangs sweep AIB in league tourney

Abbie Perez collected 36 assists and 12 digs Saturday night as Mount Mercy swept AIB, 25-13, 25-17, 25-22, in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference volleyball tournament at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs (16-21) will play Grand View in the semifinals Wednesday night in Des Moines.

Leslie Hoffmann contributed 12 kills for Mount Mercy. Megan Paustian had nine kills and three blocks. Cori Peterzalek provided 10 digs and eight kills.

Hannah Whitley had seven digs and six kills. Samantha Meyer finished with 10 digs.

 

Hartley, Mosbach win MCC races

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Tyler Hartley and Liz Mosbach of Mount Mercy were the individual champions at the Midwest Collegiate Conference cross country meet at Pettibone Park Saturday in La Crosse, Wis.

Hartley and Mosbach advanced to the NAIA national meet Nov. 22 in Lawrence, Kan.

Evan Bowman, Molly Pruett and Lindsay Brunson of Mount Mercy also qualified for nationals. Bowman finished fifth in the men's race. Pruett placed seventh and Brunson was eighth in the women's race.

St. Ambrose won both team championships. The Mount Mercy women finished second.

 

Balanced Mustangs knock off Waldorf

The Mount Mercy Mustangs exploded for 60 points in the second half Friday night and topped Waldorf, 89-78, in a men's basketball tournament at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Da'Quan Moore led a balanced attack for the Mustangs (3-1) with 14 points. Dondre Osborne and James Boonstoppel scored 12 points apiece. Kevin Price-Majors netted 11 points and Alex Houston added 10.

Boonstoppel popped in four 3-pointers for Mount Mercy.

Waldorf led 36-29 at halftime, but the Mustangs outscored the visitors 60-42 in the second half. Mount Mercy cashed in 30 of 43 free throws to provide the difference in the game.

Erik Brewer poured in 29 points for Waldorf (1-2).

The Mustangs host Midland Saturday at 3 p.m.

Mustangs sweep Bees in volleyball

Leslie Hoffmann had 13 kills and Cori Peterzalek added 11 as Mount Mercy closed the regular season with a 25-22, 26-24, 25-19 win over St. Ambrose on Wednesday night at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Peterzalek led the defense with 13 digs. Samantha Meyer, Hannah Whitley and Abbie Perez had 10 digs each. Perez had 33 set assists.

Mount Mercy finishes the regular season at 15-21, 3-3 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play. St. Ambrose is 17-17, 3-3. Both teams open conference tournament play on Saturday.

 

Zeitler paces Mount Mercy by Waldorf

Makenzie Zeitler scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday night as Mount Mercy defeated Waldorf, 71-57, in a women's basketball game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Abby Herb and Maija Jantti added 11 points apiece for the Mustangs (2-1). Christa Oldham grabbed 10 rebounds and had eight assists.

Connor Thompson led Waldorf (0-2) with 17 points.
