Waldorf tops Mustangs in men's soccer

FOREST CITY - Waldorf jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead and held on for a 5-2 men's soccer win over Mount Mercy on Tuesday night.

Kevon Farquharson scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and Mohamed Hamed scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute, cutting the gap to 3-2 before the hosts scored a pair in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

Mount Mercy is now 2-1.

Mustangs' Selander takes medalist honors

GALENA, Ill. - Mount Mercy's Jacob Selander fired an even-par 72, including a remarkable 31 on the back nine after going out in 41 to take medalist honors Tuesday at the Clarke University Fall Invitational.

AIB's Thailer Carlson was one shot back of Selander.

In the team race, the Mustangs finished at 305, four shots behind AIB, which finished at 301. Ashford (312) took third. Mount Mercy's No. 2 team shot 325 and finished 10th.

Mount Mercy spikers drop 2 matches

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Mount Mercy volleyball team dropped a pair of touch matches at the St.Xavier/Trinity Christian Crossover Tournament in Palos Heights Saturday.

Lourdes rallied to defeat the Mustangs, 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 15-10 in their first match. Siena Heights trimmed the Mustangs, 27-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19 in the second contest.

Mount Mercy's record fell to 3-4 for the season.

Demi Heiss had 16 kills in the match against Lourdes. Ashley Strong collected 25 assists. Cori Peterzalek had 20 digs. Leslie Hoffmann contributed eight blocks.

The individual statistics from the Siena Heights match were not available Saturday night.

Mustangs take women's golf title

The Mount Mercy women's golf team won the Mount Mercy Fall Invitational by 18 shots Saturday at Hunters Ridge.

The Mustangs finished at 688 for the 36-hole tournament.

Sydney Clement of Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) won the individual title at 5-over-par 149 with rounds of 74 and 75.

Meg Monson of Mount Mercy placed second at 162 with rounds of 77 and 85. Madison Goodfellow of Mount Mercy finished fifth and Kelsey Dircks tied for eighth.
