The Jefferson J-Hawks started a new tradition under Coach Brian Erbe on Tuesday in the same winning manner as their old one.
Brooke Stauffer pitched a five-inning no-hitter and drove in three runs in the opener to spark Jefferson to a doubleheader sweep of Washington, 10-0 and 12-0, in MVC softball at Jefferson.
Erbe, the former coach at Xavier, was coaching his first games as the J-Hawk mentor after replacing Larry Niemeyer following last season. Before coaching at Xavier Erbe was an assistant coach for Niemeyer, who holds the national record for most wins by a prep softball coach with 2,089. Niemeyer collected many of those wins during his 25-year tenure at Jefferson.
Besides holding Washington hitless, Stauffer also collected two doubles.
Alyssa Olson struck out 10 and authored a two-hitter for the J-Hawks in the four-inning nightcap.
Maddie Koolbeck had three hits, and Kaitlyn Davidson, Maddie Hansen, Paige Timmerman and Erin Kuba had two hits apiece for the J-Hawks.
Hansen and Timmerman drove in three runs, Koolbeck two.
