Jefferson lost for the seventh time in eight football games Friday night.

But for one of the few times, the J-Hawks laid an egg.

Iowa City West turned two interceptions into touchdowns, built a 40-0 lead by halftime and rolled past Jefferson, 47-7, on Senior Night at Kingston Stadium.

The loss was Jefferson's worst since a 44-0 whipping administered by Xavier in the season's second week.

Iowa City West (7-1, 4-1 MVC Mississippi) amassed 357 yards in the first half and scored on five of its seven possessions. The Trojans also had a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown by John Milani about 3 1/2 minutes into the game that staked them to a 6-0 lead.

Jefferson (1-7, 1-4) had 93 yards rushing in the first half, but continually was hurt by penalties, dropped passes and poor execution on offense, and missed tackles on defense.

The J-Hawks clicked better on offense after halftime, broaching the Trojan 50 three times and scoring their only touchdown. The latter came on a 30-yard pass from Layne Sullivan to Mason Furnish, who made a fine leaping grab to haul in the ball in the end zone. Nick Rocha's PAT kick made it 47-7 with 8:42 left in the game.

Sullivan led Jefferson with 68 yards rushing. He also completed half of his 22 passes for 149 yards.

The J-Hawks had 10 penalties for 87 yards that offset their 256 yards of total offense.

West finished with 434 yards of total offense, 268 on the ground. The Trojans' Nate Boland also completed 9 of 13 passes for 166 yards, including a 61-yard scoring toss to Kevin Dowell. Devin Raffensperger ran for a team-high 77 yards and two touchdowns. Dowell also ran for a touchdown.

Jefferson closes out its season next Friday at Dubuque Senior.
