Football prevues - Oct. 30

The second season starts Wednesday when the playoffs kickoff in six classes across the state.

On the local front there are four games, including a doubleheader at Kingston Stadium.

Xavier is on a quest to reach its second consecutive Class 4A title game. The Saints (8-1) host Clinton (4-5) in a game that shapes up as a huge mismatch.

The highlight of the evening is at Kingston Stadium and features a pair of rematches. Washington (6-3) hosts Cedar Falls (6-3) at 5:30 p.m. and Kennedy (6-3) hosts Prairie (5-4) at approximately 8 p.m.

Washington has won six straight games since a 21-7 loss at Cedar Falls in Week 3. The Warriors will be looking for some revenge.

Kennedy scored the final 14 points in a 28-24 win at Prairie in Week 2. This game looks to be a bruiser with both clubs featuring ground-and-pound attacks.

Marion (4-5) pulled off a stunner in a 10-0 win over DeWitt Central last Friday to qualify for the Class 3A playoffs. The Indians likely will have to play every bit as well, if not better, when they take on West Delaware (8-1) at Manchester.

The second round is Monday at sites to be determined, although if Xavier wins it will host at least one more game.
