Otting wins Metro Spotlight Award

Xavier High School junior Tim Otting is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Otting, a left tackle on the offensive line, helped the Xavier football team reach the championship game of the Class 4A playoffs this year and finish with a 12-2 record.

Otting, who stands 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, helped Xavier tailback Brendan Miller set school records for most rushing yards in a single game and most rushing yards in a career.

Otting broke the fibula in the lower part of his left leg Friday during the first quarter of the championship game against Dowling. He was injured after throwing a block that helped quarterback Quinton Scholer score on a 72-yard run.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Tim Otting:

MSR: What is your favorite individual highlight in sports?

TIM: Making it to the state championship this year and everything up to it.

MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?

TIM: Playing with a team where everyone always has your back and everyone is a family.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

TIM: I'm hoping to work to be able to play college football somewhere after my senior year.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

TIM: My biggest influence on my sports career has definitely been my current coaches, such as Coach Schulte, Coach Sullivan and Coach Tursi, but also my Little Saints basketball coaches, such as Coach O'Connell and Duane Jasper.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

TIM: AP biology and business.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

TIM: I enjoyed doing service work with the whole football team on Saturday mornings that Joe Worden and his mom would set up. I just really enjoyed being with this group of guys. They are the best coaches and players I would have ever even imagined playing football with.
