DES MOINES - Caleb Miller came up 15 pins shy in his bid to repeat as Class 1A state bowling champion Monday at Plaza Lanes.
Miller, a junior from Xavier, shot a 490 set with games of 279 and 211 and finished second in the individual portion of the boys tournament.
Marion's Bre Smith rolled a 433 set and tied for fourth in girls individual competition. She was 45 pins behind champion Shelby Carrier of DeWitt Central.
Miller was tied for first place after rolling a 279 in his first game. Red Oak senior Hayden Berry overcame a 10-pin deficit with a 235 in his second game and finished with a 504 set. Miller rolled a 211 in his second game.
Waverly-Shell Rock won the boys team title.
Keokuk won the girls team championship.
