Schotterback resigns teaching post

Byron Schlotterback has officially resigned as the varsity baseball coach at Cedar Rapids Washington High School, a spokesman for Cedar Rapids Community Schools confirmed Monday.

Schlotterback also has resigned as the director of vocal music at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School.

"Mr. Schlotterback was on personal leave and has now submitted a letter of resignation to the District," Marcia Hughes confirmed in an e-mail to the Metro Sports Report. "This resignation will be part of the personnel report to the Board of Education on Monday, May 23."

Hughes is the Community Relations Supervisor for the school district.

No official reason has been given for Schlotterback's leave of absence or his resignation.

Schlotterback conducted baseball practice at Washington on Monday, May 2 when preseason drills began. The next day, Washington assistant baseball coach Brent Henry replaced Schlotterback as the interim head coach for unexplained reasons.

Dr. Ralph Plagman, the principal at Washington High School, told the Metro Sports Report that Schlotterback's situation is not related to his job performance as Washington's baseball coach.
