VAN HORNE - The Cedar Rapids Prairie softball team lost to Benton Community, 2-1, in the season opener Wednesday in Van Horne.

Anne Cervany went 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Hawks.

Natalie Halverson was the hard-luck loser for Prairie. She allowed only one earned run on three hits. She struck out eight batters and did not walk anyone.
