Quick start sends Spartans past Cougars

PLEASANT VALLEY — Pleasant Valley bolted to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and the Class 4A No. 5 Spartans rolled past Kennedy, 60-42, Saturday (Dec. 4) in a nonconference game.

Lindsey Jipp scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to lead Pleasant Valley (4-0).

Stacy Clark, who picked up two fouls in the first 59 seconds of the game and sat out the rest of the first quarter, finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Courtney Strait led the Cougars (1-2) with 10 points and eight rebounds. Kaylese Johnson also had 10 points.  Kennedy shot 28 percent from the field and made 12 of 23 free throws.

Both teams qualified for last year’s state tournament.
