Mustangs have busy day in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. - The Mount Mercy softball team played three games at  the Friends Tournament in Wichita State on Saturday, emerging with one  victory and two defeats.

The Mustangs lost to fifth-ranked Oklahoma City, 3-0, in their first  game. They collected only three hits, including two by Hannah Mausser.  Madelyn Irwin allowed three runs in seven innings, but took the loss.

Mount Mercy topped Ottawa of Kansas, 7-2, in the middle game. Emily  Oler and Mausser drove in three runs. Mausser had two hits. Morgan  Braughton and Jess Heick scored twice. Jayna Witzany pitched a  complete game for the Mustangs with nine strikeouts.

The Mustangs lost to second-ranked Science & Arts, 13-11, in eight  innings in their final game. Heick and Oler hit home runs. Irwin was  3-for-3 and drove in four runs. Heick was 2-for-5 and had three RBIs.  Payton Bruner was 2-for-5 and scored three times. Braughton and Sydney  Robertson scored twice. Oler had two RBIs.
Mount Mercy finished the busy day with an 8-5 record.
