Warriors battle, but lose 14th straight

The Cedar Rapids Washington boys basketball team threatened to break into the victory column Tuesday night before falling short against Waterloo East, 48-43.

The Warriors chopped a 23-14 halftime deficit to just four points entering the fourth period, but they could not finish the comeback and lost their 14th straight game.

Brock Butterfield popped in four 3-pointers and led Washington (0-14, 0-11) with 14 points. Sean Bredl collected a double-double for the Warriors and finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Corshandous Love, a 5-foot-3 senior, sparked Waterloo East (5-11, 2-9) with 15 points and seven steals. Deaton Hoskins scored 13 points for the Trojans and Arkel Todd added 10.

The five-point loss matched Washington's closest setback of the season. The Warriors lost to Kennedy, 53-48, on Jan. 6.

WATERLOO EAST (48): Love 5 2-4 15, Jones 0 6-8 6, Todd 3 2-2 10, McGrane 1 0-0 2, Evans 0 0-0 0, Hoskins 5 2-8 13, Clifton 0 0-0 0, Robinson 1 0-0 2. Totals 15 12-22 48.
