Morgan Barnes tops all-Metro swim team

Cedar Rapids Washington senior Morgan Barnes has been named the Athlete of the Year on the 2012 all-Metro swimming team.

Barnes placed second in the 500-yard freestyle and finished third in the 200-yard freestyle at the state meet in Marshalltown Saturday, helping the Warriors finish seventh in the team standings.

Washington swimmers claimed eight of 12 spots on the all-Metro first team. Barnes was joined by Ian Ford, Josh Hughes, Scott Allison, Nick Durin, Ian McElree, Sami Scheetz and Jared Thorson.

Jefferson placed two swimmers on the first team with Kristian Anderson and Lance Scallon. They were joined by Nate Greve of Linn-Mar and Chandler Heisler of Kennedy.

Shawn Thomsen of Kennedy and his staff were named the Metro Coach of the Year.
