Lombardi will keep job at Washington

Tony Lombardi will be allowed to keep his job as a teacher and coach at Cedar Rapids Washington High School, the Metro Sports Report learned Monday night.

The Cedar Rapids Community School District conducted an investigation of Lombardi after parents of Washington students filed a formal complaint with the district, accusing the Washington teacher and coach of using inappropriate language in his dealings with their children.

Some of the Washington parents met with Jill Cirivello, the executive director for human resources for the school district, Monday night and were told that Lombardi would remain in his job. One of the Washington parents and a school district employee confirmed the result of the investigation, but provided no other details.

Lombardi is the head football coach, the head baseball coach and a physical education instructor at Washington. The complaints accused Lombardi of bullying and harrassment of football players and non-players alike.

Lombardi has been Washington's head football coach for six years and was named the school's baseball coach this past fall.

Lombardi could not be reached for comment Monday night.
