The Cedar Valley Christian football team will play Central Elkader in an 8-man district game on Oct. 12 after all.
The Huskies, faced with a manpower problem, have canceled their season opener against Gilbertville Don Bosco on Aug. 16. They originally planned to skip their game against Central Elkader on Oct. 12 so Don Bosco could face Elkader, but now that won't be necessary.
"Don Bosco agreed to cancel the Week Zero game (Aug. 16) without taking the Week 8 game (Oct. 12)," Cedar Valley Christian Principal Jeff Pospisil reported Monday. "So we once again have a nine-game schedule and we don't have to worry about forfeits, district games and all that."
Cedar Valley's game against Don Bosco was a non-district game, and it's been canceled without forfeit.
Cedar Valley plans to have at least 12 players on its varsity this season, but only eight players would have been available for the game against Don Bosco due to vacations.
