Prairie girls drop opener at Muscatine

MUSCATINE - The night began on a bad note for the Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team Saturday when Cyerra Hutchins sprained her ankle during warmup drills and was not able to play.

It didn't get any better from there.

The ninth-ranked Hawks lost to No. 4 Muscatine, 64-43, in a battle of Class 5A clubs in the season opener at Muscatine.

Mckenzie Stoffer, a 6-foot freshman for Prairie, sprained her ankle during the game and was not able to continue. Madison Dellamuth, the starting point guard, has returned from knee surgery but will have her minutes limited for awhile. Emilie Rotter tore her ACL during the summer and has been lost for the season.

Courteney McCrary led the Hawks with 15 points. Alisa Weiland scored 11.

Megan Thiesse hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Muscatine.
