Dellamuth wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Madison Dellamuth is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Dellamuth is a 5-foot-6 point guard for the Prairie basketball team. She was named third team all-state in Class 5A last year by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and has signed a letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Dellamuth is averaging 14 points and approximately five assists this season. She enjoyed one of the best games of her career against Dubuque Senior Dec. 13 when she scored 26 points, hit seven 3-pointers and had six assists.

Dellamuth helped the Hawks (4-3) win the first Mississippi Valley Conference division title in school history last season.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Madison Dellamuth:

MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?

MADISON: My favorite team highlight in sports was winning the conference title game last year versus Waterloo West. They killed us when we met earlier in the season, so beating them for the title made it that much better.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

MADISON: My future goal in sports is to attend Bradley University and play basketball.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

MADISON: My parents and coaches have had the biggest influence on my sports career. They have always supported me in whatever I do and continue to push me to be better.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

MADISON: My favorite class in school is German. I have always enjoyed it because it will never be something I will perfect, but will always give me a challenge. In March I will be taking a trip to Germany with some of my class. In the future I hope to tie the language with my career.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

MADISON: My favorite community service project is Special Olympics night that our basketball team hosts. We do drills with them and then play a series of games. I love seeing how happy they are about something that seems so basic to most of us. They truly appreciate the little things and this is a great reminder to myself of how fortunate I am.
